A Day at Iburu Coffee

A Day at Iburu Coffee

Today, I'm sharing a glimpse into the heart of Kenya's coffee culture and the behind-the-scenes. In my recent visit, I documented the incredible work of the farmers and the intricate journey of coffee from picking the ripe cherries to preparing the beans for export.

In Kenya, coffee farming is rooted in community traditions. Families and neighbors come together during harvest, supporting each other and building livelihoods.

The process involves: selective handpicking of ripe cherries, sorting, pulping, fermenting, washing, drying, and finally, preparing the beans for sale. Kenya has two marketing systems for coffee: the auction at Nairobi Coffee Exchange, where the buyers are licensed, and direct sale. The buyers process the coffee further before selling it to roasters worldwide or locally.

Experience the journey through my lens.
